Aftercare
Aftercare information
General guidance for patients after treatment. Always follow the specific instructions given to you by your treating clinician — they take precedence over anything on this page.
Follow your clinician's instructions
The clinic that treated you will give you personalised aftercare instructions. These are based on your assessment and the treatment carried out, and they should always be followed in preference to general information.
What we help with
- Keeping in contact with the treating clinic on your behalf where you need us to.
- Arranging follow-up appointments in the UK where clinically appropriate.
- Helping you understand the next stage of your treatment plan.
- Passing on questions and any clinical concerns to the treating clinicians.
General guidance after dental treatment
- Attend all review appointments, even if everything feels comfortable.
- Follow the cleaning routine you have been given, and use any products recommended to you.
- Take any medication exactly as prescribed and finish the course if you have been asked to.
- Avoid smoking, which is known to affect healing, particularly after surgical procedures.
- Keep to any advice about food, drink and physical activity for the period you were told.
When to seek advice urgently
Contact a dental professional promptly if you experience severe or worsening pain, significant swelling, bleeding that does not settle, a high temperature, difficulty swallowing or breathing, or if a restoration comes loose. In an emergency in the UK, contact your own dentist, NHS 111 or your local emergency dental service. For anything life-threatening, call 999.
Contact us
Call 020 4571 0363 or email info@okayhealth.co.uk. Okay Health Dentistry is a coordination service and cannot give clinical advice; we will always direct clinical questions to a registered dental professional.
